Anne Arundel County has filed 19 criminal charges of animal neglect and cruelty against Donald Sweeney, Jr. and 28 criminal charges of animal neglect and cruelty against Leah Dorsey. The trial is scheduled for Dec. 10, 2013.

On June 4, 2013, Anne Arundel County Animal Control impounded four horses and five ponies (and sundry other farm animals) from Severn Stables on Upton Road upon the recommendation of Sweeney’s veterinarian Thomas Jett that the animals be removed for ongoing neglect.

This follows on the heels of the refusal of the courts to return some of the animals to Sweeney and Dorsey.  After having their animals seized, the couple filed several petitions with the Anne Arundel County District Court to have some of the animals returned, but Judge Megan Johnson denied the petitions.
