Dorothy Beavers Troutman of Upper Marlboro died on January 31 at the age of 101. Troutman was a civic activist best known in the horse community for her expertise in zoning laws for Prince George’s County and being fundamental in the creation of the Prince George’s Equestrian Center. Troutman was also a founding member of the Maryland Horse Council and served on the Maryland Horse Industry Board for several years. She was also instrumental in creating Rosaryville State Park.

Katherine Rizzo interviewed Troutman for an article first published in the February 2020 edition of The Equiery. This article was reprinted in the March 2024 edition to honor such an influential member of the Maryland horse community.
