Live Racing at Pimlico Starts Today!

Today marks the opening of the Preakness meet as live racing returns to Pimlico Racecourse in Baltimore. The spring stakes schedule offers 15 stakes races with $3.7 million in purses. Maryland Racing Media Award Winners Honored at Laurel Park

More Maryland Thoroughbred racing awards were celebrated on February 17 during the Winter Carnival at Laurel Park with the Maryland Racing Media Association’s 2017 awards. MRMA is the nation’s oldest state-level racing media organization and was established in 1937. Fair Hill-based Irish War Cry was named Maryland-bases Horse of the Year for trainer Graham Motion and owner/breeder Isabelle de Tomaso. Irish War Cry won the Holy Bull (G2) and Wood Memorial (G2) in 2017. Maryland Horse Breeders Association Announces 2017 Champions

Earlier this month, the Maryland Horse Breeders Association announced its 2017 Maryland-bred champions during its inaugural Renaissance Awards. This new awards celebration was a cooperative effort between the Maryland Horse Breeders Association, Maryland Thoroughbred Horsemen’s Association and Maryland Jockey Club. In case you missed it… Keystone Velocity, a 9-year-old gelding trained by Rene Allard and driven by Daniel Dube, won the second running of the $100,000 Potomac Pace on November 5 at Rosecroft Raceway in Fort Washington setting a track record in the process! The gelding is owned by Rene Allard, VIP Stable, Earl Hill, Jr. and Kapildeo Singh. Keystone Velocity beat out last year’s winner All Bets Off by 1 1/2 lengths in 1:47.3.
