Yesterday, December 29, we reported that Jeff Newman, the CEO of the Maryland 5 Star at Fair Hill, is departing that role.
The Equiery has since learned that Jeff Newman resigned as CEO on November 21, 2025, and that Marissa Meltzer, the former VP of Operations and Senior Project Director, resigned at the same time. In addition, we have learned from other staff members of the Maryland 5 Star team that their contracts were not renewed for next year.
On Sunday, the Maryland equine industry, including Secretary of Agriculture Kevin Atticks, members of the various Fair Hill boards and committees, and several members of the US Equestrian Federation and the US Eventing Association, engaged in one-on-one discussions with one another about plans for the 2026 edition of the Maryland 5 Star, including discussions about the several excellent candidates who might assume the role of CEO.
Today, Mike Frenz, the Executive Director of the Maryland Stadium Authority told The Equiery that: “With respect to the Maryland 5 Star, all involved are committed to maintaining the tradition and legacy of this important event.”
We will report more information as it becomes available.
