On Friday, November 22, 2013, David Wells (trainer of Rapid Redux, owned by Marylander Robert Cole, Jr.) and three others were arrested on federal fraud charges at Penn National Race Course in Grantsville, PA. Additional charges include doping horses to rig races. Investigators include the FBI, the Pennsylvania Horse Racing Commission, Pennsylvania state police, the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the Dauphin County District Attorney’s office.
Penn National Race Course is owned and operated by Penn National Gaming, which is a contender for gaming license at Rosecroft Raceway in Prince George’s County.
