Maryland State Veterinarian Dr. Jennifer Trout recently informed veterinarians that as of January 1, the Maryland Department of Agriculture is transitioning to electronic-only Certificates of Veterinary Inspection (CVIs) for both inter- and intra-state travel.
MDA Animal Health stopped printing paper CVI forms in December 2025. It has a limited supply of paper forms available for veterinarians to purchase. MDA will no longer sell paper certificates once those remaining forms are distributed and, starting January 1, 2027, MDA will not accept paper CVI forms for any purpose.
Dr. Trout’s alert to veterinarians noted that there are many electronic CVI software platforms for veterinarians to use, some of which are FREE. Electronic CVI options include but are not limited to:
Acclaim Systems: VET-CVI Mobile/Desktop (FREE)
VET-CVI on App Store for IOS devices
VET-CVI on Google Play for Android devices
Microsoft Windows App Store
GlobalVetLink (GVL) http://globalvetlink.com/
Vet Sentry https://www.vet-sentry.com
VSPS- Large animals only (FREE) https://vsapps.aphis.usda.gov/vsps/
