July 2010
As of July 1, Rosecroft Raceway in Prince George’s County is officially closed. This leaves Ocean Downs on the Eastern Shore as the only remaining Standardbred race track left in Maryland.
On June 28, the last horsemen who lived at the track agreed to move out after a Prince George’s County Circuit Court judge denied an injection that would have forced Cloverleaf Enterprises Inc. to keep the track open for training purposes. Kelley Rogers, president of Cloverleaf told The Baltimore Sun that he blamed the track’s demise on “an untenable financial arrangement with the state’s larger Thoroughbred industry.”
