The Equine Disease Communication Center reported today (March 18) that one horse at Laurel Park Racetrack in Prince George’s County has tested positive for the Respiratory strain of Equine Herpesvirus. The three-year-old Thoroughbred stallion first showed clinical signs of a fever and hind limb cellulitis on March 7 and EHV-1 Respiratory was confirmed by the State Veterinarian on March 13. As per state law, the barn where the positive horse was located (Barn 31) has been put on official quarantine to prevent the spread of the disease.
