Summer is just around the corner. While some people might be heading out of state for vacations, others stay right here in Maryland. From day trips to long weekends to even longer stays, Maryland has many equine-themed places to visit. Here are just a few recommendations from The Equiery readers!

“Without a doubt, riding Patapsco State Park with the many water crossings and interacting with so many hikers, swimmers and fisherman, taking notice of my horses. We can swim and cool off, we can stay cool under the cover and the mature beautiful trees and we can ride to eateries such as Woodstock Inn, EW Becks and the Sykesville American Legion. It’s the best summer adventures ever.” – Carolann and Louis Sharpe

“The absolute best spot in Maryland, and probably a few other states, to take your horse and camp with them is Valley Meadow Farm. Well, I say ‘camp’ but actually you get a whole farmhouse! The views are absolutely spectacular and it’s so quiet and tucked away. The owners are so friendly and accommodating. The trails are in the best shape I have ever ridden.” – Sara Erdle

“My favorite horse-themed spots in Maryland are Assateague, Ocean Downs (pictured) and Fair Hill.” – Pam Polk

“Belair [mansion in Bowie] is one of my favorite horse-themed spots in Maryland, also the Selima Room at the Bowie Library. Another is Sagamore Farm (pictured).” – Judith Robinson

Shawan Downs! – Tammie Monaco
