On Monday, July 11, 2011, former Maryland businessman, polo player and father of actor Sylvester Stallone, Frank Stallone, 91, died in his Wellington, Florida home of complications related to prostate cancer.

An Italian immigrant, Frank Stallone came to the United States in the 1930s, worked as a hairdresser and a cobbler in New York City, and served in the U.S. Army Cavalry in the 1940s.  He moved to the Washington area in the 1950s, establishing salons and beauty schools in Montgomery County and eventually settling on a farm in Potomac and joining the Potomac Polo Club.
