UPDATED 10/17/12

It is with heavy heart that we report that beloved 4-H leader Shirley Geis (Clarksville) died September 19. She would have been 83 on September 21.  We extend our deepest condolences to her son, farrier Dean Geis, Dean’s wife Lori, and to all the members and alumni of the Spur & Stirrups 4-H community.

Friends and family will gather to remember Shirley Geis on Saturday, October 27, 2012 in Centennial Park, Pavilion H (off of Woodland Road) in Columbia, Maryland. The gathering will commence at 1 p.m. with a covered-dish potluck and will be followed by shared memories.   Click here for directions.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Shirley Geis for the support and perpetuation of the equine programs (such as hippology, horse bowl, and horse judging) to the Maryland 4-H Foundation, Inc. 8020 Greenmead Drive; College Park, Maryland 20740.

A formal obituary will appear in the November 2012 edition of The Equiery. To read more now about Shirley’s life, please see this article written in The Equiery archives by Ross Peddicord, published in February 2001.
