The 2021 Maryland-bred filly Splendora won the $1M Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Sprint on November 1, 2025, at Del Mar Racetrack in California. She was trained by Bob Baffert and ridden by top-shelf jockey Flavien Prat. She won by 4¾ lengths and earned $520,000 for her efforts.

Splendora was bred in Maryland by Stuart Grant’s The Elkstone Group . She is by Audible out of Miss Freeze (Frost Giant).

Six other Maryland-breds have won Breeders’ Cup races: (i) Safely Kept won the 1990 Sprint against males before there was a Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Sprint; (ii) Concern and Cigar won the Breeders’ Cup Classic in 1994 and 1995 respectively; (iii) Sharing won the 2019 Juvenile Fillies Turf); (iv) Aloha West won the 2021 Sprint; and (v) Knicks Go won the 2020 Dirt Mile and the 2021 Classic.
