EMC Announces Exciting Addition to Sports Medicine Team
The Marion duPont Scott Equine Medical Center (EMC) in Leesburg, VA is pleased to announce the addition of Dr. Maureen Kelleher to its faculty.
Receiving her veterinary degree from the University of California-Davis School of Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Kelleher is a board-certified surgeon who also completed her surgical residency at UC Davis. Dr. Kelleher brings to EMC years of experience in a large equine private practice in southern California specializing in sport and performance horses. Dr. Kelleher’s focus at this practice was lameness, equine sports medicine, advanced diagnostic imaging, and acupuncture.
Dr. Kelleher’s research and work has been published in numerous veterinary publications including Veterinary Surgery, Journal of American Veterinary Medicine and the Journal of Equine Veterinary Science. She has served on several panels at veterinary conferences and has been a guest lecturer at several schools of veterinary medicine. Dr. Kelleher is also a Certified Veterinary Acupuncturist.
In her new role at EMC, Kelleher will specialize in the assessment, treatment and when needed, the orthopedic surgery of performance-limiting problems in sports horses. She will work closely with EMC’s medicine and surgical clinical teams, utilizing the advanced diagnostic imaging capabilities at EMC to provide a comprehensive approach to the diagnosis and treatment of lameness and performance limiting issues. She will also work closely with EMC’s therapeutic farrier team to provide a full array of therapeutic and preventative options for horses.
“I am extremely impressed with the availability and quality of the technology that EMC has to offer to assist in the diagnosis of performance limiting injuries,” explained Kelleher. “The array of cutting edge technologies such as the High Definition CT scan, standing MRI, nuclear scintigraphy and combinations of these technologies, are a major asset to diagnosing lameness issues. And I must add that the faculty and support staff at EMC is simply top-shelf. Having an extraordinary support staff is critical to my work and the successful treatment of horses. It’s a fabulous combination and I am extremely pleased to be a member of the EMC team.”
Dr. Kelleher has relocated from California to Leesburg VA with her husband, her off the track Thoroughbred named “Pernicious,” two rescue dogs, “Yogi” and “Bella” and her cat “Scout.”
