“Sarah’s Story” (The Equiery, August 2012)

ORIGINAL STORY: Equine photographer, intrepid steeplechase reporter and Maryland native Sarah Libbey Greenhalgh (48) is believed to have died early yesterday morning in a fire which consumed her Upperville home.

Sarah, a regular Equiery contributor for almost two decades, had moved to Virginia last summer to take a full time position with The Winchester Star, a position former Chronicle of the Horse publisher Rob Banner had helped to secure for her. She rented a small cinder block cottage on the farm of Ann Macleod.

An autopsy will be performed today to confirm the cause of death and the identity of the body. The fire is considered suspicious and is under investigation.  The Winchester Star will monitor the investigation.

The Equiery extends its sincerest condolences to Sarah’s mother, Sara Lee Greenhalgh of Poolesville, Sarah’s family and all of our friends and colleagues in the horse industry.  We will post updates on the investigation as well as final arrangements when they become available.
