Although her Ijamsville barn on Gibralter Lane was destroyed by fire on Wed., January 8, Julie Salsi’s four horses are safe.

Although the cause of the fire is unknown at this time, all barn owners and manager should take caution during frigid weather. We know that when the temps dip into the single digits, it is not unusual to see some barn owners or managers using portable construction type or utility type heaters to try to keep the barn somewhat comfortable and the water from freezing in the buckets and pipes. But beware, as your barn is packed with combustibles, including but not limited to all of your bedding (straw, dust, shavings).
