On January 24, at the 2018 Eclipse Awards dinner held at Gulfstream Park (Hallandale Beach, FL), Zanjabeel was named Champion Steeplechase Horse. The English-bred five-year-old gelding won twice and finished second twice in four 2018 starts, earning $265,500. Trained by Ricky Hendriks, Zanjabeel was imported in 2017 and purchased by Mandy and George Mahoney’s Rosbrian Farm and Wendy and Ben Griswold’s Meadow Run Farm shortly after arriving in the U.S.

This past season, Zanjabeel won both the $200,000 Calvin Houghland Iroquois (G1) and the $175,000 Lonesome Glory Handicap (G1). He finished second in the $150,000 Marion duPont Scott Colonial Cup (G1) and second in the $75,000 Temple Gwathmey Handicap (G2). 2018 was only his second season racing over hurdles.
