Maryland horsemen have been speculating as to whether or not certain lines of Triple Crown Nutrition feeds (available through Southern States) are going to become hard to purchase or more expensive as a result of a grain elevator fire on Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013, in Ada, Minnesota. Fire crews spent most of that night battling a blaze that was reportedly visible from ten miles away and that drained the town’s water tower, requiring tankers from surrounding areas (grain dust is highly conbustible).

Triple Crown Feeds are distributed locally by Southern States. According to Triple Crowns Sales Manager Kelly Payne, the Triple Crown feeds distributed by Southern States are manufactured in Gettysburg, PA. The only product line sold by Southern States that may be affected are the forage products, as they are produced in a brand-new, multi-million dollar plant adjacent to the grain elevator. As of press time, the elevator remains are still smoldering and inspectors are unable to make a thorough assessment of the forage plant.
