As of early May, the State Highway Administration is currently accepting applications for recreational trail program funding for the 2014 fiscal year. The funds are to be used to complete and maintain recreational trails and related facilities. The funds are not limited to one type of trail use and applications are open to equestrian projects as well as hiking, running, cycling, cross-country skiing, off-road motorcycling and all-terrain vehicles.
The SHA is giving priority to projects that link existing trails, reduce environmental impact, have broad public support or include youth group work. The funds match money from federal funds with local funds or in-kind contributions. Funds are available to cover up to 80% of the project’s cost.
The deadline is July 1, with grants being announced this fall. Click here to download an application. Applications must be submitted electronically to email@example.com.
