Maryland Hunt Cup: Twill Do Does it Again!

James Stierhoff piloted Twill Do, owned by Lucy A. Goelet and trained by William Meister, to the winner’s circle of the Maryland Hunt Cup for the second time this past weekend (April 28 in Glyndon). The pair won the Hunt Cup in 2010 and this year won by a 3/4 margin over Northwoods Stable’s Battle Op.

There were 12 starters at this year’s race with six finishing. Twill Do in first, Battle Op second, Bon Caddo third, Professor Maxwell fourth, Fort Henry fifth and Prospectors Strike sixth.

Hunt Cup Preview and Current Gov Cup Standings

This Saturday marks the 116th running of the Maryland Hunt Cup. As of 10am on Wednesday, the following horses are slated to run:

Grand National Results: And the Eagle Flys takes the Amateur Timber

The Grand National Steeplechase was run in Butler on April 21. Trainer Billy Meister took to the irons himself to win the Grand National Amateur Timber Stakes aboard And the Eagle Flys for owner Mrs. William D. Class, Jr.

Elkridge Results: Battle Op Wins by a Nose

In the first race of the day at the Elkridge-Harford Hunt Point to Point on April 7 at Atlanta Hall Farm in Monkton, Battle Op, ridden by Connor Hankin for Northwoods Stable and trainer Lilli M. Kurtinecz, rallied after the last jump to win the Edward S. Voss Memorial Open Timber by a nose.

Big Fields Set for Elkridge

The Open Timber and Novice Timber entries are large for tomorrow’s Elkridge-Harford Hunt point to Point (Saturday, April 7) at Atlanta Hall Farm in Monkton. Currently, 11 horses are entered in the Open Timber with six of them being possible Maryland Hunt Cup runners. The Novice Timber has 14 runners. For race details, click here.
