Trail Riders of Today (TROT) will be awarding two $500 scholarships to young equestrians to help them pursue their ongoing equine activities. Today’s youth will become the “Trail Riders of Tomorrow” and it is they who will become the next generation to protect and preserve our equestrian trails and our environment.
These scholarships are being offered in honor of the many TROT members who have donated thousands of hours in support of TROT’s mission to “maintain and expand sustainable trails for equestrian use throughout Maryland. Their activities include: leading trail rides; maintaining, improving and expanding existing trails as well as designing new ones; testifying at hearings in Annapolis and at the local level; collaborating on State and County Master Plans; and working alongside other citizens interested in protecting the environment.
The applicant must be a Maryland resident, a full time student 12-18 years old, and a current member of 4-H, Pony Club, FFA, a licensed Maryland riding stable or another equine organization represented on the Maryland Horse Council. Each applicant must submit a Young Equestrian Scholarship application form and a maximum 300 word essay entitled: How horses have affected my life and how I plan to keep them in my future. The essay should include how the recipient would use the scholarship funds, were they to receive them. The award may be used to attend a 4-H or FFA camp, attend clinics, take lessons, pay registration fees to show or to participate in a horse event, purchase educational equine books, etc. The funds received may not be used to pay for food, hotel or travel costs.
